Public Service Announcement: Abduction/Missing Children

A PSA is an announcement that you make to draw attention to a certain topic that should be noticed.
I learned that my topic happens a lot more often then I really thought it did.
I feel like my final project is sad, but it is a sad topic, and it gets the word across by playing with emotions.
The most difficult part of this project was outlining the words EVERY Second Counts, because it took me awhile to figure out how to do it, but messing around with the different tools helped me figure it out.
I feel like I have improved greatly from the beginning of this class. I feel like my skills are a lot better, and I have a pretty good idea of what I'm doing now, and what photoshop tools do what.

Every 40 Seconds

My topic is child abduction. I care about this topic because it's a really big problem if every 40 seconds someones child is taken away from them. I want to say that it is something people need to be aware of because 80% of the abductions happen within .25 miles away from home, and they are usually dead within 3 hours. I intend to portray this with a picture of a child, and statistics layered on top.

Photomantage

This is the my My Choice picture. I used a fish tank wallpaper background, and put pictures of fish and ocean plants. I chose to do this because I like fish.

iEat

My I phrase is me eating food. I chose these poses because their easy, and it shows me eating. I highlighted the details I did because they are the main object in my picture. I liked this project I thought the process was hard at first but after the first picture I was very easy.

Self Critique Filter Project

I think that the most successful part of this photo is the way the colors enhance the subject in the photo. I think the way the shadows are blue and purple, make the subjects face, hands, and hair stand out. As well as the colors against a white background, makes everything "pop."
If I could change anything about this photo I would make the background a little lighter, or darker then the subjects shirt so it's easier to see.
I enjoyed being able to choose are own picture, and I thought editing it in the filter was fun. I liked trying different filters and messing around to see what different filters I liked.
I didn't really find anything about this challenging I found it easy, and fun.
I think that in the future I might use it for other classes and projects.
I think that so far, my digital art skills are really good, I was really surprised that I've been doing so well!

Pop Art Critique

I critiqued Maddi's pop art picture. I like the colors that she chose to use in her photo. The circle around the center of the flower makes the rest of the flower stand out because the color stands out against the rest of the flower. I also like the way the flowers not directly in the center of the photo, its in the corner. The only thing I would have changed is the way she arranged the colors, I would have put the reds and orange colors separated instead of grouped together.

Pop Art

Pop Art was discovered by Andy Warhol in the 1960s. Pop art consists of photos of an everyday object. The pictures have bright colors to capture the attention of the attention of the human eye. The pictures above are all examples of pop art. The colors used attract people. Andy Warhol is the creator of the Campbells Soup can label. When he discovered silk screening in the early 1960s he was able to create his art work faster. He tends to use unnatural colors that makes the images Pop, hence its name.

Concentration Plan

I am going to go around my house, and take pictures of different types of food, set up in different ways. I'm going to arrange them around in different lights, and take multiple pictures and choose which ones I like the best.

This shows the Rule Of Thirds because the image is placed on the side not directly in the center.

Depth of Field

This picture has low depth of field because the background of this picture is blurry and not clear. The flower is clear. If the flower was blurry and the background was clear it would be high depth of field.

Movie Q's

1) National Geographic's pioneer photographer Gilbert H Grosvenor maintained that “The mind must see before it can believe.” Do you think this is true? Explain.
I think this is true, because it's easier to imagine something if you can see it.
2) The photographers come across many obstacles, problems, and dilemmas while out on photo shoots. List 5 that stood out to you.
Diseases, broken bones, sea sickness
3) Nick Nichols specializes in wildlife photography. What happened with the elephants on his trip to the Rainforest? How do you think you would have reacted in that situation?
The elephants came after the photographer, in this situation I would probably jump into a bush, I would disappear so fast to keep from getting trampled.
4) What do the National Geographic photographers tell you makes a great photo? (Tell me 2 things)
Sharp and clear
5) National Geographic gives some good pointers on Portraits. What did you take away from this film about photos of the human face?
Everyone has a face that makes them their own individuals. It's a beautiful thing, no matter what you look like.
6) Photographers often shoot hundreds of photos and only pick one or two from the group. Did you agree with the explanations of why certain pictures get chosen for the cover? Which cover was your favorite?
Color, light, detail. Yes I agree with the pictures chosen. I liked the ones showing people and animals from other cultures.
7) David Doubilet photographs underwater. He comments on making the reader “feel the ocean.” How do you think YOU can make viewers FEEL your subjects when you take your photos?
Making the picture detailed, or close up.
(at 37 minutes in, the Lion hunting scene in the African bush is a little brutal, some may not want to watch this, turn away until 39.5 minutes)
8) National Geographic's mission is to provide its readers “with a window on the world.”
They take pictures of parts of the world that people have never seen before, and shows us what it's like there.
9) What are your thoughts on the Peruvian sheep faming boy? The photographer felt that his “intrusion” had made an actual difference. How can you make a difference with your own photos?
I've seen the sheep picture before, I thought the picture was really sad. When other people saw it they raised money for him and bought him new sheep. My pictures could make a difference by influencing someone to do something.
10) Did this film inspire you in any way for your own photography? We're going to explore photography more in depth next week, what lessons will you retain from this film?
This video showed me ways to take inspiring pictures, and how other parts of the world look through pictures that were taken there.
